Community Impact
Skill Shares
These workshops are opportunities for Water Leaders to learn from co-creators, invited experts, and each other. We focus on specific skills and capacities that strengthen our work as community leaders across issue areas. Thus far, Skill Shares have included advocacy strategies, research and data collection, building and DIY projects, and narrative tools that support community-driven initiatives.
Making Connections
With each workshop, we set aside time to draw out connections from water issues and “living with water” to the full range of issue areas that affect all residents. These include neighborhood development, transportation, economic opportunity, public health, housing, and urban design. How do stormwater management goals in the public right of way relate to complete streets and bike lanes, for example?
Community Projects
Each Water Leader receives a sub-grant to share knowledge, tools, and resources with their own communities. Projects have included Water Leader-led wetland and green infrastructure tours, neighborhood association presentations, poetry readings, and arts-centered block parties. The WLI team provides technical assistance for each project. These projects expand the impact of each cohort into the broader community.
